Moodboarding
Moodboarding
What’s your inspiration? A designer needs inspiration before she can even sketch, drape, or sew up a design. You’ll be looking for silhouettes, textures, fabrics, colors, accessories, and themes that excite you. This is the fun part, getting your creative juices flowing!
Supplies:
Large sheets of paper or sketch pad
Scissors
Glue
Magazines — fashion, home, lifestyle, or nature publications
Fabric swatches optional (Don’t have any at home? Visit a local fabric shop. Most will let you cut sample swatches to bring home!)
*You can also do a virtual mood board too! Pinterest is a great way to create a digital mood board for each of your design themes.
Instructions:
Flip through your magazines, tear or cut out what you like, and slowly build your story by placing (first) then glueing them down on your sheet of paper. You can make dozens of mood boards for each story you want to tell. Next up, time for sketching!
